The Bank Holiday weekend saw Hayle Surf Life Saving Club celebrating their 50th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Club by organising a Jamboree on Hayle Towans. The site at Sandy Acres was kindly donated free of charge by Claire Williams of DGW Sand Co and the two day event was attended by over 200 people, including Founder member Daphne Hocking who attended the very first session of the Club back in 1961.

The weather did not dampen anyone’s spirits and much fun was had by everone. Entertainment on the Saturday night was provided by the excellent Sandy Acre Seven fronted by Chris Ryan on the stage in the Marquee whilst earlier in the evening Joe Holtaway and James Wallis had strummed on their guitars and sang by the campfire. Sunday saw most campers heading off down to the Clubhouse to have a bit of fun on the rescue boards etc. The evening’s entertainment began with a bbq followed by a raffle with many prizes donated by local businesses. The highlight of the evening however was Mike Friday’s Bush Tucker Trials for the younger members of the Club who had also been entertained throughout the weekend with bouncy castles, football, tag rugby and rounders, a fancy dress parade and craft making sessions.

Club Chairman, Graham Williams said “What a fantastic and really special weekend, many thanks must go to our organisers – Catherine Eustace, Abi Parsons, Siobhan Merrett and Traci Parker for all their hard work, to Hayle Lion’s Club for their Marquee and to everyone who donated food and drink and prizes for the raffle including many local businesses. It was a great way to celebrate the Club’s 50th Anniversary bringing all ages together for a fun weekend of camping and entertainment. A more formal Dinner and Dance will be held at the Penventon Hotel later in the year but as the younger members who are such a big part of the Club would be unable to attend it was decided to hold this Jamboree for everyone to enjoy.
