James Burlingham of Hayle Surf Lifesaving Club is celebrating being voted Cornwall’s ‘Community Volunteer of the Year ‘(Under 25) for 2011 at the Cornwall Sports Awards held at Newquay’s Atlantic Hotel.

The awards ceremony is organised annually by the Cornwall Sports Partnership to celebrate and pay tribute to the many volunteers, coaches and officials across the County who dedicate so much time and effort to support sporting participants throughout the Duchy.

James was nominated for the award in recognition of the huge amount of time and boundless energy he gives to the Nipper & Junior sections at Hayle Surf Lifesaving Club to ensure that their young people are given the opportunity to take part and progress in an atmosphere of enjoyment and fun.

Gaynor Symons a Committee Member and Nipper Parent initially nominated James for the accolade and after making it to the shortlist which narrowed down to three on the night a nervous wait ended when compere Neil Caddy of Pirate FM made the announcement.

After receiving his trophy from Jon Coleman of Sports Leaders UK over 200 guests were treated to a short video of James in action taking a Nipper session at Penzance Leisure Centre and featuring endorsements of his nomination from Club members.James B video 3
