Croyde Bay in North Devon was the setting for the Legacy Elite event on the weekend of 19 and 20 June 2010.
Just two clubs (nippers) from Cornwall were invited to compete at this event this year – Hayle SLSC and Portreath SLSC. The sun was shining and the surf was clean but a challenging size. Twenty four children aged 10-13 years of age were selected by each club to compete, this ensured that each team was competing on a level footing. Six other Nipper teams from across Devon and Wales were also invited to attend. The races were tough and included board races, swim races, relays and beach events. Hayle SLSC were delighted to come second overall and also won both girls age groups. Woolacombe SLSC won overall and Portreath SLSC came third. Team Manager Traci Parker said, “We are so proud of all of the Nippers who competed at the weekend. The conditions were extremely challenging, with sets of waves higher than the children themselves! All of those who participated proved that they were worthy of being selected as they all pushed themselves to achieve the best possible results for their team. Some of the children competed in older age groups to make up teams and rose very well to the challenge.”
