Bennett Board Series 2012

Four of our club members recently took part in the Bennett Board Series 2012.

The Series consisted of four long distance board races at four different venues, two in June and two in July.

The first was at Ilfracombe, then Newquay, Brighton(in conjunction with the Paddle Round the Pier) and lastly Paignton,Torbay.

This year there were more catagories to suit varying ages and abilities.

Points were accumalated over the four races with 1 point for 1st, 2 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd etc.  If you missed a race you were given the amount of points equal to the amount of entries in your catagory. At the end of the Series only 3 races counted so you could drop your highest race score to give yourself the least amount of points possible. The winner being the one with the least points in each catergory.

The name of each participants surf life-saving club was put into a draw and at the last race this was drawn with the chance to win a paddle-board for your club.  Unfortunately, it was not us this year!

Results in the overall Series were:-

Lewis King came 3rd in the Nipper Boys 8-10yrs   1.5k

Morva Hughes came 1st in the Nipper girls 11-13yrs    1.5k

Nick Trestail came 2nd in the Intermediate Mens Open     3k

Tegen Hughes came 1st in the Intermediate Womens Open    3k

Also, at Broadsands Beach, Paington after the last board race, SLSGB held The Big Bay Dip, a fun open water swim for all abilities.

Lewis, Morva, Tegen and Beth Prisk all took part with Beth doing the 1600m event.  Well Done.

An enjoyable series to take part in with some very exciting races . Very well done to everyone.
